SAVE THE DATE FOR ULTRA LADIES' WELCOME RUN FOR 2023!
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4 - TRAIL RUN AND CLINIC TO FOLLOW!
Aside from her rock star looks, Catra Corbett is a standout in the running world on her accomplishments alone. Catra is the first American woman to run over one hundred miles or more on more than one hundred occasions and the first to run one hundred and two hundred miles in the Ohlone Wilderness, and she holds the fastest known double time for the 425-miles long John Muir Trail, completing it in twelve days, four hours, and fifty-seven minutes. And, unbelievably, she's also a former meth addict.
After two years of addiction, Catra is busted while selling, and a night in jail is enough to set her straight. She gives up drugs and moves back home with her mother, abandoning her friends, her boyfriend, and the lifestyle that she came to depend on. Her only clean friend pushes her to train for a 10K with him, and surprisingly, she likes it — and decides to run her first marathon after that. In Reborn on the Run, the reader keeps pace with Catra as she runs through difficult terrain and extreme weather, is stalked by animals in the wilderness, and nearly dies on a training run but continues on, smashing running records and becoming one of the world's best ultrarunners. Along the way she attempts suicide, loses loved ones, falls in love, has her heartbroken, meets lifelong friends including her running partner and dachshund TruMan, and finally faces the past that led to her addiction.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Please take a photo of your vehicle license plate so you can enter it on the sign-in sheet.
- Please check the weather and dress accordingly.
- Please carry enough fluid to allow you to consume +/- 20oz per hour between water stops. Please get used to carrying two 20oz bottles or an equivalent hydration pack. No small bottles please!
- Trails will be marked with flour arrows (see photo below) but you could still get off trail. The same arrows will be used for both directions. Sometimes runners miss arrows because they are talking and not paying attention. Occasionally hikers scuff out the arrows and other running clubs may mark their own arrows which can be confusing.
- Pay attention to landmarks to avoid getting lost! If you think you are off trail, turn around and backtrack to the last arrow you saw and continue from there.
- Trail shoes are not required but if you plan to join the group, they will benefit you. Please speak to one of the coaches for recommendations.
- Pacing: Always run at your own pace, following the arrows. You are not expected to "keep up". Most of these runs will be "out-and-back" so you are encouraged to go as slow as you need to go on the way "out" to insure that you have the energy to come back a little faster.
- Ultra pace is "walk the up hills; alternate running with walking on the flats and run all the down hills".
- If you leave the trail for any reason, please drop your belt or pack on the trail to mark where you left the trail. Also please remember to "leave only footprints"; pack everything out.
- Everyone runs for "time on their feet". A hard turn-around time will be established for each group and everyone is expected to turn around at the prescribed time and head back to the cars. This means that everyone completes the same amount of “time on their feet" regardless of mileage.
- Don’t forget to bring a recovery drink/snack to share while we wait for everyone to return.

ULTRA LADIES RUN FOR SATURDAY, MAY 4
AGENDA:
RUN LOCATION: Marvin Braude aka Top of Reseda
PARKING:
Park below the yellow line. Remember to lock your vehicle and DO NOT LEAVE ANY ITEMS IN PLAIN VIEW that would attract Smash & Dashers.
MEETING LOCATION:
MAXIMUM RUNNING TIME: 3h30m
Please observe the hard turn around at 9:10 to allow ample time for the return (you will need it).
WATER: Available at mile 5.3-ish, mile 6.4-ish and again at both locations on the return trip.
TOILETS: Portas at mile 2.8; flushing at mile 6.4-ish and again at both locations on the return trip.
SIGN IN SHEET:
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is an out-and-back run on hilly, graded fire roads with a few miles of beautiful single track trail thrown in. Ultra Ladies always run for “time on your feet” so please don’t worry about mileage; it will take care of itself.
POISON OAK: Please be aware of poison oak on either side of the trail between miles 4.5 and 6 and the same section on the return trip. Below are some suggestions for preventing and treating poison oak; worth your read. I've always done well by using my water to wet down any areas of my body that have been directly exposed.
The 8 Best Poison Ivy and Poison Oak Prevention Products of 2019
RATTLESNAKE ENCOUNTERS: It's rattlesnake weather so you may
possibly come across these beauties. On cool days they are often found in full sun keeping warm. On very hot days they are more often in the shade, under rocks but may come out in the morning or evenings when the intense sun has passed. If you see a snake stretched out like a water hose, they are not in "bite mode" unless you inadvertently step on one. I have gone around the tail end of dozens of snakes in this position. Often a couple of squirts from your water hose on the tail of the snake is enough to cause them to gently slither off the trail. If the snake is coiled and especially if the head of the snake is off the ground, they are locked and loaded for a strike. I would avoid going within 10 feet of a snake in this posture. The majority of snake bites are caused by humans aggravating the snake by using sticks to poke at it. They don't wanna bite humans because you are not a food source for them and they need to keep their venum for something small enough to eat.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Please check the weather and dress accordingly.
- Please carry enough fluid to allow you to consume +/- 20oz per hour between water stops. Please get used to carrying two 20oz bottles or an equivalent hydration pack. No small bottles please!
- Trails will be marked with flour arrows but you could still get off trail. The same arrows will be used for both directions (see photo). People sometimes erase the marks and other running clubs may mark their own arrows which can be confusing. Fatigue may cause you to miss an arrow. Pay attention to landmarks to avoid getting lost! If you think you are off trail, turn around and backtrack to the last arrow you saw and follow from there.
- Trail shoes are not required but if you plan to join the group, they will benefit you. Please speak to one of the coaches for recommendations.
- Pacing: Please run at your own pace, following the arrows. You are not expected to "keep up". Most of these runs will be "out-and-back" so you are encouraged to go as slow as you need to go on the way "out" to insure that you have the energy to come back a little faster.
- Ultra pace is "walk the up hills; alternate running with walking on the flats and run the down hills".
- If you leave the trail for any reason, please drop your belt or pack on the trail to mark where you left the trail. Also please remember to "leave only footprints"; pack everything out.
- Everyone runs for "time on their feet". A hard turn-around time for each run will be established for each run and everyone is expected to turn around at the prescribed time and head back to the cars. This means that everyone completes the same amount of “time on their feet" regardless of mileage.
- Don’t forget your recovery drink/snack while we wait for everyone to return.
We encourage everyone to put our mobile numbers in your phones in case you need to reach us during your run. Calls are hit-and-miss but texting usually works.

2018
You may have heard that after 16 years at the helm of Bulldog 50k & 25k Trail Runs, we have passed the baton to the new race directors Daniel and Tina Wassauer. Daniel is already an experienced RD in our local mountains having worked on Xterra Malibu Creek and Tina supplies the energy to keep Daniel going; they are perfect partners and we hope you will continue to support the The Bulldog under their guardianship.
